Genuine Acura Oil Filters

2007 Acura TSX

Change vehicle

The oil filter in your Acura is critical to its engine's performance. If your vehicle didn't have one, its oil pump would wear out double quick, taking the pump's bearings with it and causing all sorts of problems in the process.

What oil filters do, then, might seem straightforward. They trap the impurities and infiltrates present in motor oil. (In this sense, they’re similar to air filters and fuel filters, which also capture external contaminants, for the engine, heater, air conditioning, and fuel system, respectively.)

Unfortunately, not even washable, reusable ones are permanent. Sooner or later, they decline with age, that is, if they don't clog full of muck. When that happens, those engine troubles invariably result. The best way to avoid them, then, is to regularly replace your oil filter -- at every oil change, during every other one, every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, or every 3 months. The exception: if your Acura has an extended-life oil filter. These often last as 10,000 miles at a time.

To figure out when it's time to change it, look for the signs. They range from dirty and/or smoky exhaust to oil leaks, oil pressure loss, and metallic sounds or sputtering coming from your engine.

Which ones fit your model, then? Check your owner's manual. It should have info on the right thread and gasket sizes. It's paramount that you install a filter that fits your vehicle. Putting the wrong-size one in can cause an oil leak. Worse yet, the filter can detach, causing severe (and expensive) engine damage. Your best bet is to install one that Acura makes for your car or SUV specifically.
